Fuel efficient and smooth - that’s Indica!
Tata Indica, the vehicle is often referred to as a ‘small car with a big heart’. For someone, who is used to driving around on a petrol car, the Indica diesel can be somewhat disturbing, albeit initially. Shifting of gears from the first to fifth is painstakingly slow and one has to adhere to the speed limit, as mentioned in the driver’s manual. The top gear (that’s the fifth) can only be reached, when the car crosses the speed limit of 65 kmph. But once in full throttle, it’s the steadiest of the cars on the road. The average mileage on the highway one could get (if the car is well maintained) is nearly 18 kmpl, while in the city around 15 kmpl. The engine is so smooth that one cannot hear the sound from within the car and as for the AC, the ‘quick chill’ mode is very effective and the high beams on the headlights can tame reckless drivers, who never ever bother to put their headlights on low beam.
If that’s the technical aspect, the Indica, despite being in the small car segment is a spacious beast. There’s enough leg room for those sitting on the rear seat. One needs not bend his legs, but stretch them till he hits the destination. The boot space is quite adequate for a small family, going out on a long drive… So pack your bags and jump into your Indica…
